Farnham Craft Town’s first Artist in Residence: Fiona Byrne

Farnham Craft Town’s first Artist in Residence: Fiona Byrne

Fiona Byrne, our first Artist in Residence, spent a busy month in Farnham during Spring 2024. One of the objectives was for her to create a piece of art inspired by Farnham, which will form the first piece of a craft collection,  which will capture the essence of Farnham World Craft Town.

Her approach was collaborative, working with local makers and local materials to create images and impressions in clay that she then fired, and used as moulds to blow glass into. She also gave a number of talks, to the general public and the student body at the University for the Creative Arts to share her expertise and experience as an artist. This culminated in an Open Studio on her last day with us, where visitors could see the whole process she had been through and ask her questions about the work. We'll start the selection process for next year's residency in June 2024, so keep and eye on the website and Instagram to find out more.

Watch the video of her journey here.
