Get creative with hand papermaking! This workshop will introduce Western style papermaking techniques. After seeing a demonstration of the traditional methods, using mould and deckle, the participants will have supported hands-on practice forming their own sheets from cotton, linen and other recycled fibres. This process of working with water and natural fibres can also be explored as a meditative, tactile, sense-evoking experience. Equipment provided.
We will briefly look at the history of paper and the contemporary use of paper as an art medium. Gain fresh insights and learn how to turn this unpretentious everyday material into a beautiful new creation. The inclusion of flower petals or a foraged foliage from the breathtaking Waverley Abbey grounds are just an example of the creative possibilities. Let’s make a gift card, bookmark or a sheet of special paper to include in your art projects. At the end of the session, you will be able to take away your creative. Some protective clothing, such as kitchen apron, is recommended as you will be working with water and pulp. Equipment and materials will be provided.
