Initiated by the British Art Medal Society, this long-running project supports lost-wax bronze casting at British art colleges, with a focus on bas-relief. It gives students a demanding brief that builds technical skill and close attention to form and narrative, drawing on methods rooted in Renaissance Italy. The art medal is a two-sided object made to be held in the hand, allowing the maker’s ideas and craft to be experienced at close range.
Now in its 33rd year, the exhibition presents selected and prize-winning student medals from across the UK. The works show how this small format can carry strong ideas and skilled making, and how medals can be collected, commissioned, shared, or given as thoughtful gifts.
